I’ve been playing drums / percussion for over twenty years, and performing regularly for the majority of this time. I have played in many different projects and have made music all over the country and abroad alongside some amazing musicians. I have played at large music festivals – including Glastonbury, Boardmasters, and the Norweigian Sommerfesten – in theatres, in large and small clubs/venues, and the occasional pub. I’ve recorded in pro studios in the UK and Europe. I’ve been involved with rock bands, punk bands, ska bands, jazz bands, indie bands, motown / soul bands, orchestras, musical theatre productions, and I have experience of co-writing songs too.
Whilst doing all this, I started teaching. Initially I was just teaching other students whilst I was studying for my degree in music at the University of Liverpool, but that quickly became a busy private teaching practice, first in Liverpool, then Hemel Hempstead, and now in St. Albans (which is where I plan to stay!). I’ve also worked for several Local Authority music services, teaching both individual students and large groups in schools across the country.
In 2015 I built my first soundproof room in my garden in Hemel Hempstead. In 2020, studio no. 2 was completed in St Albans, bigger and better in every way! I feel very fortunate to have a very well- equipped permanent base to teach from without disturbing the neighbours.
I have been lucky enough to turn my passion into something I make a living from, and love to pass my knowledge and experience on to others. I hope that I can help you to love drums and music as much as I do!
